The Midlothian High School Band Program

The Midlothian High School Band program is one of the longest standing and most successful programs in school. The MHS band serves close to 200 students, grades 9 through 12.

All students enrolled in the band program are participants in the marching band, most commonly known as the Panther Regiment. The Panther Regiment performs at every Friday night football game and competes in many marching band competitions around the DFW metroplex as well as in other states. Every other year the Panther Regiment is eligible to qualify for the UIL State Marching Band Contest held in San Antonio, TX. In addition to competitions and football games, the Panther Regiment is frequently asked to perform in parades and for other events around the community.

All students enrolled in the band program are also participants in one of four concert bands, the Wind Ensemble, Honor Band, Symphonic Band and Concert Band. At the end of each school year, all returning students will audition for placement in a concert band. All four concert bands meet for one class period each day. Each concert band prepares music for various concerts held throughout the school year. The Wind Ensemble, Honor Band and Symphonic Band compete each spring in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading contest. In addition to UIL contest, the bands compete in various competitions in the DFW metroplex as well as out of State.

The Midlothian High School Wind Ensemble is eligible every other year to qualify for the TMEA State Honor Band. The Wind Ensemble has been recognized on the State level and the National level, by being asked to perform in band conventions and clinics in Salt Lake City, Seattle and at Troy University in Alabama.

Members of the MHS band program are able to participate in many other events that allow them to grow individually as young musicians. Students of all bands are encouraged to audition for the Region 20 All-Region Bands. This audition process will advance students to the TMEA All-State Band. Students of all band are also encouraged to participate in the UIL Solo & Ensemble competition each spring. Students that place high enough in this event will become eligible to participate in the UIL State Solo & Ensemble compeition held at the University of Texas in Austin.

Students enrolled in the band program are also able to participate in the MHS Jazz Band. The Jazz Band meets for one class period a day and prepares music for various concerts, community events and for the annual Jazz Band Dinner Dance fundraiser held in conjunction with the Walnut Grove Middle School Jazz Band.

All students are able to try out for the MHS Winterguard. The Winterguard meets in the Spring semester and competes in WGI competitions.
